Scientists are learning how powerful sleep is in its ability to restore and rejuvenate our bodies. The trouble is, sleep works only if we get enough of it. While plenty of pills can knock us out, none so far can replicate all of sleep’s benefits, despite decades’ worth of attempts in high-tech pharmaceutical labs.
The answer? Learn to control your own sleep and increase your sleep drive. For example, only go to bed when your tired and resist the urge to stay in bed when you wide awake. Use your bedroom for sleep and not a place to work, watch TV or listen to music. Strategies like this will help you to strengthen your bond between bed and sleep.
